إن الحمد لله، نحمدُه ونستعينُه
ونستغفرُه وَنَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
ونعوذُ باللهِ من شرورِ أنفسنا،
وسيئات أعمالنا
من يهدِه الله فلا مضلَّ له
ومن يضلِلْ فلا هادي له
وأشهدُ أنْ لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريكَ له
وأشهدُ أن محمداً عبده ورسوله. لا نبي بعده
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا
اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِ
وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا
وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ
فإن أصدق الحديث كتابُ الله
وخيرَ الهدي هديُ محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم
وشرَّ الأمورِ محدثاتُها
وكلَّ محدثة بدعةٌ
وكلَّ بدعة ضلالةٌ ،
وكلَّ ضلالة في النار
معاشر المسلمين ، أًوصيكم
ونفسي بتقوى الله ، فقد فاز المتقون
Allah SWT said
تَبٰرَكَ الَّذِىۡ بِيَدِهِ الۡمُلۡكُ
وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ قَدِيۡرُۙ
اۨلَّذِىۡ خَلَقَ الۡمَوۡتَ وَالۡحَيٰوةَ
لِيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ اَيُّكُمۡ اَحۡسَنُ عَمَلًا
Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion
and He is over all things competent
[He] who created death and life
لِيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ to test you
اَيُّكُمۡ اَحۡسَنُ عَمَلًا
[as to] which of you is best in deed
Allah SWT reminds us in these verses
about the quality of our good deeds
before talking about
their quantity
So, we should pay attention
to the quality of our deeds
Which of you is best in deed?
Fuad bin Ayyad rahimahullah,
when he was asked about the best deeds
he said
أخلصه وأصوبه
The best is the most sincere and the one
following the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ
Among the ways to improve
the quality of one's deeds
is by trying to conceal the deeds
There are many references
that explain that
The more hidden is the deed, the better
its quality is before Allah SWT
Thee Prophet ﷺ said
مَنِ يَسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَكُوْنَ لَهُ
خَبْءٌ مِنْ عَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ
Whoever among you is able
to conceal his good deeds
Nobody knows except Allah SWT
he shall do it
This is a sign that someone should strive
to conceal his righteous deeds
as much as possible
Thus, those who are shaded
by Allah on the Day of Judgment
among 7 groups
are people who conceal their righteous deeds
The Prophet ﷺ said
سَبْعَةٌ يُظِلُّهُمُ اللهُ فِيْ
يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ
Seven people will be shaded by Allah
on a day when the sun is a mile away
a very hot day
sweat pouring out
There are 7 groups who are happy
whom Allah shades, under His shade
when there will be no shade except His
The Prophet ﷺ said
رَجُلٌ قَلْبُهُ مُعَلَّقٌ فِي الْـمَسَاجِدِ
a man whose heart is attached
to the mosque
No one knows his longing to the mosque
except Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
His heart always goes to the mosque
He does not say it to the public
He does not announce it to others but Allah
knows that his heart is with the mosque
Then, the Prophet ﷺ
وَرَجُلٌ تَصَدَّقَ بِصَدَقَةٍ فَأَخْفَاهَا
حَتَّى لَا تَعْلَمَ
شِمَالُهُ مَا تُنْفِقُ يَمِيْنُهُ
a person who practices charity
with his right hand
so secretly
that his left hand does not know
what his right hand has given
Let along other people
even part of his body,
his right hand, does not know
what his right hand gives
Showing that he strives to conceal
the charity he spends
And the third, the Prophet mentioned
about the people among the 7 groups
رَجُلٌ ذَكَرَ اللهَ خَالِيًا
فَفَاضَتْ عَيْنَاهُ
a person who in seclusion
remembers Allah and his eyes
get flooded with tears
He cries not in the presence of others
but he cries before Allah SWT
He hides his cry because of Allah SWT
Therefore, the best prayers are prayers
that are concealed
The Prophet ﷺ said
أَفْضَلُ صَلاَةِ الْمَرْءِ
فِى بَيْتِهِ إِلاَّ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ
The prayer a man offers
in his house is more excellent
except obligatory prayers.
that of course have to be done
at the mosque
The more a person conceals
his sunnah prayers
the better his prayers are
before Allah SWT
The Prophet ﷺ said
صدقة السر تطفئ غضب الرب
Charity in secret
extinguishes the wrath of the Lord
Allah SWT said
إِنْ تُبْدُوا الصَّدَقَاتِ
فَنِعِمَّا هِيَ ۖ
وَإِنْ تُخْفُوهَا وَتُؤْتُوهَا الْفُقَرَاء
فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ
وَيُكَفِّرُ عَنْكُمْ مِنْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ ۗ
وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ
Allah says, If you disclose your charitable
expenditures, they are good
but if you conceal them
and give them to the poor
it is better for you
and He will remove from you
some of your misdeeds [thereby].
And Allah, with what you do,
is [fully] Acquainted.
Allah knows in detail
about your actions
In the last verse that I recited
Allah mentioned two qualities
of righteous deeds
Visible and sincere righteous deeds
Better yet, sincere and concealed
righteous deeds
Visible and sincere deeds are good
But better yet, sincere and concealed
righteous deeds
Even Allah mentions if someone does
righteous deeds in secret
Then
Allah will remove his misleeds
Allah closes the verse by saying
وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ
Dont worry; Allah, with what you do,
is [fully] Acquainted.
Nobody sees you
Your wife does not see
Your brother, your friend
they do not see
But Allah knows
the charity you spend
معاشر المسلمين
Therefore, we see the practice
of the Salaf
They practiced this striving
to conceal their righteous deeds
Al Awza'i narrated about Umar bin Khatab ra
Umar went out at night in the dark
He was followed
by Thaha bin Ubaydillah
Then Umar entered a house
After that, Umar left the house
Thaha was curious, and
came to the house the next day
It turned out that in the house
there was an old blind woman
She was sitting, immobile
unable to do a single thing
Thaha asks, what did the man
who came to you last night do?
So this blind and immobile woman said
The man always provides my needs
Umar ra went out at night
and no one knew
to help women who was helpless
Look at Ayyub As Sihtiani
rahimahullahu ta'ala
He performed night prayers
And he concealed his night prayers
When the morning call to prayer
was announced
he woke up as if he just woke up
speaking as if he was just waking up
Other people did not know
he performed evening prayers
When Ayyub AsSikhtiani delivered a hadith
فيرق قلبه
Then suddenly his heart grieved
and he cried
And he did not want to show his cry
in front of others
He would look away, as if he had a cold
and say
ما أشد الزكام
The flu is really severe
People thought he had
the flu while he was crying
because he was touched
by the hadith that he recited
He hid his cry
Look at Abu Al Hasan At Thuusi
rahimahullahu ta'ala
He entered his house
while carrying water
People didn't know what he was doing
Then someone asked his child
My father entered the house,
and he kept crying
After that, he washed his face
and put on (black) eye shadow
when he was going out of his house
so people would not know he had cried
Look at Ali bin Hussein ra
Ali bin Hussein bin Ali
bin Abi Talib Zaenul Abidin
Muhammad bin Shahat said
كان ناس من أهل المدينة يعيشون ما يدرون
من أين كان معاشهم
Some people in Madinah always received
food and did not know
where it came from
Until finally Ali bin Hussein died
there was no more food delivered
What happened was that
Ali Zaenal Abidin
had been carrying food to be distributed
to the poors' houses
It was only discovered when he died
and that there was no more food
And when they cleansed the body
They found a black mark on his shoulder
because all this time he carried
sacks of wheat and delivered them
directly to the poor
These were the Salaf who strived
to conceal their righteous deeds
because they knew what counts for Allah
from His servant's deeds is the quality
أقول قولي هذا واستغفر
الله لي ولكم ولسائر المسلمين
من ذنب وخطيئة فأستغفره
إنه هو الغفور الرحيم
الحمد لله على إحسانه ،
والشكر له على توفيقه وامتنانه
وأشهد أن لا إله إلا الله
وحده لا شريك له تعظيما لشأنه
وأشهد أن محمدا عبده
ورسوله الداعي إلى رضوانه
أللهم صلي عليه وعل أله وأصحابه وإخوانه
معاشر المسلمين
Truly we are now living
in a social media era
in an era where information
can be easily distributed
One shall be careful not to reduce
the quality of
his righteous deeds
by spreading, sharing them
Whatever good deeds we do
we shall conceal it as much as possible
Because the value (of concealed one)
is higher in before Allah SWT
Ifwe share our righteous deeds
Doing good to our parents
We mention it on social media
We go Umrah, we mention it in social media
We tell our chat groups group
We go on Hajj, we distribute our photos
on Facebook and other social media
We preach, we mention it,
we tell people about it
We go preaching,
we tell here and there
Finally, the quality of our deeds
is reduced
And that is what Satan wants
Ibn al-Qayyim rahimahullahu ta'ala said
When shaitan is not able
to put someone into riya '
Then Shaitan plunges him into
something that reduces his deeds
At first his deeds are concealed
And of course, the reward is great
many more compared to unconcealed ones
Then Satan tempts him
Finally he tells a story
that he has done this and that
He shares here and there.
He spreads it in his chat groups
He spreads it on social media
Even though he is still sincere
But his reward is reduced
From rewards for the concealed
to rewards for the revealed
Then Shaitan tempts again
he keeps on tempting until this time,
he tells people wanting to be riya'
and eventually his goods that are noted
are were forfeited
before Allah SWT
Today is really unbelievable
In the past, the Salaf struggled
to conceal their righteous deeds
in our day, people struggle
to share and reveal their righteous deeds
Struggling to create a team to be
able to share his good deeds
He does not know, that righteous deeds
that Allah receives are only the sincere ones
May Allah SWT bestow us with sincerity
May Allah keep us from evil thoughts
pride, arogance, and any other forms
إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ
يصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ
يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا
عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى
مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ
وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ
وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
كمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ
وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ
لِلْمُسْلِمِيْنَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ
وَالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
الأَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَاْلأَمْوَاتِ
إِنَّكَ سَمِيْعٌ قَرِيْبٌ
مُجِيْبُ الدَّعَوَاتِ
وَيَاقَاضِيَ الْحَاجَاتْ
اللَّهُمَّ آتِ نُفُوْسَنَا تَقْوَاهَا
وَزَكِّهَا أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا
أَنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلَاهَا
أَللَّهُـمَ ﺍﻏْﻔِﺮْﻟَﻨَﺎ ﺫُﻧُﻮْﺑَﻨَﺎ
ما قد منا وما أخ رنا
وما أَسْرَرْنا ومَا أعْلَنْا وما أَسْرفْنا
وما أَنتَ أَعْلمُ بِهِ مِنِّا
أنْتَ المُقَدِّمُ ، وَأنْتَ
المُؤَخِّرُ لا إله إلاَّ أنْتَ
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا
وَإِنْ لَمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا
لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً
وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً
وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّار
