Al Imam Muslim narrated
in his authentic hadits.
From Abu Hurairah RA.
That the Prophet ﷺ said:
بَيْنَا رَجُلٌ
بِفَلاَةٍ مِنَ الأَرْضِ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتًا
فِي سَحَابَةٍ
اسْقِ حَدِيقَةَ فُلاَنٍ
“While a man was walking...
...through a barren land...
...he heard a voice coming out of a cloud.”
“The voice said:”
‘O clouds pour some water...
‘Pour out your rain to so-and-so.’
“Thereupon the cloud drifted
in a certain direction.”
“The cloud discharged its water...”
“Over a ‘harrah.’"
‘Harrah’ is a rocky plain.
“Suddenly water fell down.’
“Over the gutters or drains.’
“In that harrah.
“And the water streamed.”
“This person was curious.”
“Then, he followed where the water went.”
“He followed the water.”
“He arrived at a garden.
Someone was standing there.”
“He was holding a spade
changing the course of the water.”
“Coming to him.”
“The person asked the man on the garden.”
“O servant of Allah, what is your name?”
“The person said, ‘So-and-so’”
“It was the same name as the one
he heard from the cloud."
“Then, the person asked, asked back.”
‘O So-and-so.’
‘O So-and-so, why did you ask my name?’
“The person replied.”
‘I heard a voice talking to the clouds.’
‘Pour your water to So-so’s garden.’
‘And So-so is your name.’
‘What do you do with your garden?’
‘That Allah sends clouds to pour water
over your garden.’
“The person replied.”
‘Now that you asked me...
‘I look what yield I get from my garden.’
‘I give one-third as charity out of it.’
‘And my family and I eat the third of it.’
‘And I invest one-third of it.’
‘I return to my garden as investment.’
An authentic hadits narrated by Muslim.
Listen carefully yo this hadith.
How Allah gives His blessing...
...to the owner of this garden.
Allah even sent the clouds for him
to pour down rain over his garden.
Because he feared Allah SWT.
Because he gave as charity
some of what his garden produced.
Perhaps no one knew what he did.
But Allah, the Most Knowing,
knew what he had done.
Allah did not leave him.
Instead, Allah blessed his garden.
We talk about blessing. (baraka)
The word blessing in Arabic
is originated from the word ‘birkah.’
It means something
that is a lot and remains.
It means good deeds
that are plenty and remain.
It means that, when one receives
a lot of goodness.
...it is said that
he has received blessing.
And the one who determines whether So-so
received blessing or not is Allah SWT.
He is the one who bestows blessings...
...to whomever He wills.
Therefore Allah SWT is known
by His nature of “tabaraak.”
“Tabaaaraq” in many verses.
Because Allah is Most Blessing.
And He is Allah who provides blessing
to whom and to what He wills.
And when Allah SWT
gives blessing to someone...
...He may have blessed the person.
For example, to his life.
Or to his wife.
To his children.
To his business.
To his wealth.
To his book he has written.
To his preach.
It is up to Allah.
And we feel it.
We see it too.
Sometimes, one...
...is blessed for his age.
His lifetime is the same as others’.
He spends the same time as others.
But observe.
His productivity is different.
One is blessed for his life-time.
He uses his time to...
...fear Allah, to serve
to his parents.
To give to charity, to do good deeds
as many as he can.
While others, with the same
amount of time he spends.
...show less productivity
in terms of worship.
This shows that Allah blesses
the first person.
Therefore, the most-blessed person
is the Prophet ﷺ
To the extent that Allah
even swore on the Prophet’s life.
Allah SWT said: لَعَمْرُكَ
“By your life, O Muhammad.”
Because the Prophet ﷺ's life...
...from the beginning till the end
is full of worship.
Look at how Saad ibn Mu'az RA.
He died not long after he had been
converted to Islam.
Perhaps, it was one or two years
before they migrated.
Then, he joined Khandak War
in the 5th year of Hijriyah.
He was a Muslim for only 6-7 years.
But what did the Prophet ﷺ said
when Saad passed away?
The Throne (of Allah) shook
at the death of Sa`d bin Mu`adh.
He was a Muslim for only 7 years
but Allah SWT blessed his life.
Allah SWT blessed his life,
He blesses anyone He wills.
Sometimes Allah blesses one’s child.
We may feel or see others.
For example, a person has 10 children.
Among his ten children,
one is extraordinary.
To whom Allah gives His blessing.
His devotion to parents is extraordinary.
He takes care of his parents.
He’s obedient, prays for his parents.
He’s extraordinary,
He is different from the other 9.
Allah blesses the child.
While for some people, they may have
many children.
But Allah does not bless them.
It is his driver who takes him everywhere.
When he’s hospitalized, it is his driver
who accompanies him.
His children do not care for him.
He gets ill, and none of his children
goes to see him.
His children may be successful
in their work.
But no one visits his parents.
Allah took away His blessing
from his children.
Sometimes God blesses his children.
He feels his child extraordinary.
Making him happy, pray for him,
devoted for him.
Sometimes Allah blesses his wife.
Allah gives him a righteous wife.
What did the Prophet ﷺ say?
“Let one of you...
...acquire a thankful heart...
...a tongue that remembers Allah...
... and a believing wife who will help him
with regard to the Hereafter.”
Subhanallah, some of people’s wives
are blessed.
Always giving advices,
helping them to fear Allah.
Inviting them to hear preaches.
And never spends wealth carelessly.
As the Prophet said ﷺ:
اتثر ﺍﻟﻨَّسـﺎءِ ﺑَﺮَﻛَﺔًً
ﺃَﻳَْﺴَﺮُهنُ ﻣُﺆْﻧَﺔ
The Prophet ﷺ said,
the most blessed woman ...
...are the least costly.”
It is easy to get marry with.
Living with her is easy.
She is not royal.
She helps him to give to charity.
She helps her husband
to serve his parents.
So, truly, this is a blessed wife.
While, there are other wives
who are not blessed..
She spends her husband's money a lot.
She never thanks her husband.
She never respects her husband.
Allah Almighty does not bless his wife.
Sometimes Allah SWT blesses
the books he writes.
We can see this happen. Some of the books
that we write...
... are blessed.
He’s happy that his book is read
by many everywhere.
Some books are less blessed by Allah SWT.
Nobody is interested in reading it.
Everything returns to Allah SWT.
Therefore...
My fellow Muslims,
may you be blessed by Allah SWT.
Someone should try to be able
to get blessing from Allah SWT ...
...on the things he has.
For his age, his health is blessed
by Allah SWT.
To his family.
And on his work.
So that he meets with Allah SWT
by bringing many blessings ...
... and a myriad of merits that he will
harvest as the results in the Hereafter.
How can one be blessed?
There are many ways to get blessed.
Among these, the first is
to fear Allah SWT.
Allah SWT said:
“And if only the people of the cities
had believed and feared Allah...”
"If only they had believed
and fear Allah...”
“We would have opened upon them
blessings from the heaven and the earth.”
Among causes for one
to be easily blessed...
... for himself, his family,
his wife, his children...
... his work, is to fear Allah SWT.
Allah even said to the jinn
in Surat Al Jin:
وَأَنْ لَوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ
لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُمْ مَاءً غَدَقًا
“If they had remained straight
on the way.”
...We would have given them...
...much rain.”
This is an expression in Arabic which means
abundant provision.
But with a condition
“If they had remained straight
on the way.”
It is undoubtful.
Whoever fears Allah, Allah will
bless him, his family...
... and in what he is concerned,
if he does it with piety.
Among the things that help
someone to get blessed...
..... is praying to Allah SWT.
Among the prayers taught
by the Prophet ﷺ...
... that we can recite in Qunut Witr
or we recite whenever we want ...
... in the qunut witr prayer ...
We pray
“O Allah, bless us...
...in what You have bestowed.”
Therefore, when we read the hadiths
about the stories of the Companions ...
How often Prophets prayed for them.
And they received blessing
because the Prophet ﷺ prayed for them.
Among them, Annas bin Malik Ra.
When he was escorted by his mother,
Umm Sulaym, to the Prophet ﷺ.
Umm Sulaym said, "O Messenger of Allah,
pray for Annas.”
Then the Prophet ﷺ prayed:
اللَّهُمَّ أَكْثِرْ مَالَهُ
وَوَلَدَهُ
وَبَارِكْ لَهُ فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ
"O Allah! Increase
his wealth and children...
“And bestow Your Blessing
on whatever You give him."
So Annas bin Malik was blessed
by Allah SWT.
He had lots of wealth, many children.
That Annas bin Malik said:
ليتئادون معة اليوم
“Really, my son and grandchildren
are more than 100 now.”
They were blessed by Allah SWT.
Because the Prophet ﷺ prayed for them.
Likewise the Prophet prayed
for the Muhajirins, the Ansar.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"O Allah, there is no good
except the good of the Hereafter.”
"So, bless the Ansar and the Muhajirins.”
The Prophet prayed for them.
And the Prophet prayed a lot for them
that the friends were blessed.
Likewise for example.
If we eat at someone else's house.
We are given food. So, we are encouraged
to pray for blessing ...
... for those who have invited us to eat.
The invocation is:
The Prophet SAW said:
, اللهم بارك لهم فيما رزقتهم
"O Allah, bless them.”
"To the sustenance You have given them.”
Then among the causes to get a blessing.
Do not take property that is not theirs...
Whoever looks for wealth
in an inappropriate manner...
...he won’t be blessed.
What did the Prophet ﷺ say?
"Whoever takes the property
within his rights.”
In the right way.
Not hurting others,
not taking other people's rights.
His wealth will be endowed.
"Whoever takes possession ...
... which is not his right ...
By hurting others, by deceiving.
And other things.
What did the Prophet ﷺ say?
“He will be like the one who eats
but is never satisfied.”
“He collected a lot of wealth
but he was never full.”
Never satisfied. God draws satisfaction
from his heart.
He has a lot of wealth
but he is never satisfied.
Because he takes the property
without his rights.
Among the reasons for someone
to get a blessing on his treasure ...
When he looks for treasure,
he should not lust.
Don't be greedy
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“This wealth is green and sweet”
The Prophet ﷺ meant
that wealth is nice to see.
Who would not be happy
to be rich?
It is sweet.
It pleases one.
Green, nice to see, and sweet.
But the Prophet ﷺ reminded us.
"Whoever takes it ...
...without greed...
He is not greedy toward this property...
Allah will bless it for him.
“But whoever takes it with greed...
He strives to look for wealth
as many as he can.
Never is he satisfied.
"He will be like the one who eats
but is never satisfied.”
So if you want to get a blessing
on the wealth...
...you are looking for, don't be greedy.
Allah has given you, thank Allah SWT.
We are allowed to look for
as much wealth as possible.
But there must be no greed in the wealth.
Because it can eliminate the blessing
on the treasure we are looking for.
Then among the things that can make
our property a blessing ...
... is honesty.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The two parties to a transaction...
...both have the choice so long as
they have not separated.”
And the Prophet said ﷺ:
فإن صدقا وبيَّنا
“If they tell the truth and make everything
clear to each other...
Honest while doing the transaction.
“That my item has a defect.”
“This is the disadvantage.”
When he makes a presentation,
he mentions it.
He is honest and explaining all.
“They will be blessed
in their transaction.”
“But if they conceal anything...
...and lie...
“The blessing on their transaction
will be eliminated.”
So, if someone wants to be blessed,
he should be honest in ...
... in carrying out
whatever business he does.
My fellow Muslims, may Allah SWT bless you.
We know now that what is important
is the blessing and not the quantity.
How many people have a lot of wealth.
How many people have abundant wealth.
But they are not blessed by Allah SWT.
His life is difficult,
not peaceful, not calm
He has many problems.
We can see it on his face.
This is not about abundance.
What's important is how someone
is blessed by Allah SWT.
Someone might have a small salary.
But with his meager salary,
it turns out he can build a house.
It turns out that he can be devoted
to his parents.
It turns out he can provide
for his children and wife.
His house is blessed.
He can welcome many guests.
While there is someone
whose salary is three-fold.
His house has never had a guest.
He is not devoted to his parents.
Sometimes he still has a lot of debt.
Even though his salary is three times
that of the first person.
Because one is blessed, but the other one,
Allah SWT revoked His blessing.
May Allah SWT bless us.
All of it in our lives,
in our righteous deeds.
