Verily, there are degrees among Muslims
in the religion.
The first degree is
being a Muslim.
The second degree is
being a Mukmin [Believer].
The highest degree is
being a Muhsin.
This is as explained by
hadith Gabriel.
Thus, not all Muslims reach
the degree of a Mukmin.
And not all Mukmin
reach the degree of a Muhsin.
What is Muhsin?
A Muhsin is someone
who does Al Ihsan.
The Angel Gabriel asked
the Apostle ﷺ:
“O Muhammad,
tell me about Ihsan.”
Who are Muhsin?
Then the Apostle ﷺ said:
“Al Ihsan, It is to worship Allah ...
... as if you are seeing Him.”
“And although you do not see Him ...
... He sees you.”
This is the highest degree in religion.
The degree of Ihsan.
One shall strive to perform it.
So that he reaches the highest degree
in the sight of Allah SWT.
First, he worships Allah SWT ...
... as if he sees Allah.
It means that as if
Allah is present in front of him.
As if Allah is conversing with him.
Therefore, the Apostle ﷺ said:
“Whenever anyone of you
stands for the prayer ...
... he is speaking in
private to Allah SWt.”
In another narration ...
“Allah is facing him.”
That he is certain that
Allah is close to him.
Allah is observing him.
And he is conversing with Allah SWT.
And Allah is observing his actions.
This will influence his life greatly.
His acts of worship, his attitude.
If he cannot present this ...
He will go to the second degree.
“Be certain that Allah sees him.”
Wherever he is.
To present this feeling ...
The faith that ...
Allah really observes us ...
We shall read His words saying about ...
... Allah's SWT Vast Knowledge.
Allah’s SWT Detailed Knowledge.
Allah said:
“Does He who created
not know His creation?
We are Allah SWT's creation.
Allah knows precisely
what we do.
Because we are created by Allah SWT.
In the Quran, Allah said:
“And with Him are the keys
of the unseen.”
“And He knows what is on the land
and in the sea.”
And Allah says:
"Not a leaf falls ..."
"Not a leaf falls ...
... but that He knows it.”
We cannot imagine how many leaves
there are in this universe.
Each leaf that falls
Allah knows about it.
If Allah knows about
the falling leaves ...
... Allah would know about mankind.
Who are told to worship Allah SWT.
Allah SWT said:
“And how many a creature ...
... carries not its [own] provision.”
“Allah provides for the creature.”
“And Allah provides for you.”
If a creature who will not be judged ...
... by Allah SWT ...
... Allah takes care of
and provides it ...
... Allah would know about mankind.
Therefore Allah SWT said:
Is He who stands
over every soul ...
... marking its action?
This verse explains that ...
... Allah marks every soul
in detail.
Not like human being.
In a company ...
... a director would not be able to manage
all of his employees, thousands of them.
For example, there are
thousands of employees.
The Director may manage his managers,
and his staff.
But managing his employees,
in detail, he would not be able to.
And even if he manage
his managers and staff ...
... he would not be able
to do it all the time.
But Allah SWT is different.
He Manages all of His servants
one by one in detail.
Therefore, معاشر المسلمين
Be certain that you are managed by Allah
in detail.
How often we invoke Allah.
And Allah grants our invocation.
How often we have something
in mind ...
Allah grants that wish.
That means Allah knows
what is in our heart.
Allah takes care of us
one by one.
Not globally, but in detail.
When we present this feeling,
knowing that “Allah takes care of me” ...
“Allah is observing me.”
We are certain that Allah is Close to us.
And then, we have this al ihsan attitude.
Thus, we shall worship Allah SWT.
And be sure that we are facing Allah SWT.
At least, we have faith that
Allah is Knowing what we do.
If a person reaches the degree of Ihsan ...
It would be easy for him
to be sincere to Allah SWT.
Because in every action,
each time he worships Allah ...
... each time he interacts with Allah ...
... he is certain that Allah
observes him in detail.
How could it not be?
Allah said:
“He knows that which deceives the eyes.”
“Allah is Knowing of
that hidden within the chests.”
“Allah is Knowing of that within the chests.”
When one is certain
that Allah is observing him ...
... it would be easy for him
to be sincere.
Because he focuses on Allah SWT.
He does not care
others’ judgment.
He does not care
what people say about him.
He does not care creatures’ judgment.
What he cares is how Allah judges him.
Because Allah is observing him
in detail.
Thus, a person who reaches
the degree of Ihsan ...
it would be easy for him to be
sincere to Allah SWT.
Thus, a person who reaches
the degree of Ihsan ...
It would be easy for him
not to commit sins.
Because when he wants
to commit any sin ...
... he knows that Allah is facing him.
Allah is verifying on him,
Allah is seeing him.
He will be embarrassed
in front of Allah SWT.
Thus, there are many
sinful acts happening ...
... because this feeling
is missing from a person.
He does not feel that Allah
is observing him specifically.
Than Allah observes His servants
in detail.
When this feeling is missing, it would be
easy for a person to commit sins.
Thus, Allah has mentioned that
the unbelievers ...
... have this easiness to commit sins.
Because this feeling
is missing in them.
What did Allah SWT say?
Allah SWT said:
“And you were not covering yourselves ...
... lest your hearing or your sight
or your skins ...
... testify against you
on the Day of Resurrection.”
“Why did you comit sins?”
“But you committed sins.”
“You assumed that Allah
does not know much of what you do.”
That means they do things
that they assume that Allah does not see.”
“They think that Allah ignores.”
This is what makes them dare
to commit sins.
When a mukmin reaches
the degree of Ihsan ...
And he has faith that
what he does ...
... what he sees, hears,
writes, says ...
What he puts in writing,
he comments, are seen by Allah SWT.
Allah SWT observes him,
hence, he is careful.
The last thing. If a person reaches
the degree of Ihsan ...
He will enjoy incredible comfort.
That is to see Allah SWT's face
on the Day of Resurrection.
That is the peak of blessings
in Heaven.
Allah SWT said:
For them who have done good ...
... for them الْحُسْنَى, Heaven,
The Extra.
To see Allah SWT's face.
The Apostle ﷺ said:
When the residents of Heaven,
enter the Heaven ...
Allah said to the residents of Heaven.
“Do you wish Me to give you
anything more?”
They would say:
“O Allah, what more do we expect?”
“Hast Thou not brightened our faces?”
“Hast Thou not made us
enter Paradise?”
“Thou Hast saved us from Fire?”
“What more do we want?”
They are at the top of comfort.
But there is more.
“Allah would lift the veil.”
“And they see Allah SWT.”
“Nothing would be dearer to them
in Paradise ...
... than to see their Lord’s face,
Allah SWT."
Therefore, the Apostle ﷺ supplicated:
"O Allah, I am asking You.”
“For the sweetness of looking
upon Your face in Paradise.”
