Hence, almost in all each page of the Quran, Allah SWT ... mentions His names and His characters. So that His Servants continue to glorify Allah SWT. And Allah SWT has said: وَلِلَّهِ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا "And to Allah belong the best names." "So invoke Him by them." Among His best names, there is الوتر (Al-Witr). Allah is One. Imam Al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim narrated in their shahih. From Abu Hurairah RA, from the Apostle ﷺ, the Apostle said: لِلَّهِ تِسْعَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ اسْمًا مِائَةً إِلاَّ وَاحِدًا لاَ يَحْفَظُهَا أَحَدٌ إِلاَّ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ وَهْوَ وَتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوَتْرَ "Allah has 99 Names." "He who memorized them all by heart will enter Paradise." "Allah is witr (one) and loves 'the witr' (i.e., odd numbers). الوتر means ... ... as explained by Abul Abbas Al-Qurthubi rahimahullaah. Al-Witr, the One is tauhid. [To believe in His monotheism] أَنَّ اللَّهَ فِي ذَاتِهِ وَكَمَالِهِ وَأَفْعَالِهِ وَاحِدٌ Allah SWT is One in His Essence. Allah SWT is One in His Character. Allah SWT is One in His Perfection. Allah SWT is One in His actions. يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ Allah loves 'the witr' (odd numbers). Allah loves Tauhid. [the creation must believe in His monotheism] Allah is not even, but He is One. مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا "Allah does not have a companion nor a child." If Allah has a companion, than He is in pair. If Allah has a child, then there is one who is similar to Him. Thus, Allah would not have been One. Thus Allah SWT said: فَلَا تَضْرِبُوا لِلَّهِ الْأَمْثَالَ "So do not assert similarities to Allah." فَلَا تَجْعَلُوا لِلَّهِ أَنْدَادًا وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ "So do not attribute to Allah equals." Equals would mean Allah SWT is not One. هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُ سَمِيًّا "Do you know of any similarity to Him?" (4) "He is Allah, [who is] One." At the last verse, Allah said: وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ "Nor is there to Him any equivalent." To perfection the sense of His Oneness, Allah SWT makes His creation in pairs. In pairs. Allah SWT said: وَمِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ "And of all things We created two mates." لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ "Perhaps you will remember (Allah SWT)." "So that you will glorify Allah SWT." سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْأَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنْبِتُ الْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ “Exalted is He who created all pairs." "From what the earth grows." "And from themselves, and from that which they do not know." Thus Allah creates everything in pairs. Allah creates the sky and the Earth. Allah creates heaven and hell. Allah creates men and women. Allah creates male and female. Up and down. Fire and water. Gabriel and demon. Moses and Pharaoh. Allah creates everything in pair. So that they know that only Allah SWT is One. The lesson we learn why Allah SWT has commanded ... ... in His legislation odd numbers ... ... so that His servants always remember Allah's Oneness. He shall not be associated. He has no pair. He is Allah SWT, the One. The Apostle ﷺ said, أَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ، يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ “O People of the Quran." "Perform Witr." "For Allah is Witr." "And He loves the odd (numbered)." Thus Allah SWT has commanded many things to be done in odd number. Tawaf and sa’i for seven rounds. It is recommended by the Prophet to eat seven Ajwa' dates in the morning. مَنْ تَصَبَّحَ سَبْعَ تَمَرَاتٍ عَجْوَةً لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ ذَلِكَ اليَوْم سُمٌّ وَلاَ سِحْرٌ "He who eats seven 'Ajwa dates every morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them." And the Apostle ﷺ also said, فَمَنِ اسْتَجْمَرَ فَلْيُوتِرْ "if you use stones to clean your private parts, use an odd number." Number of pieces of shroud for the dead. It is recommended to use odd number of peices of shroud for the dead. There are many other things that Allah has commanded to be done in odd numbers. So that we remember Allah SWT's Oneness. When الوتر is one of Allah's names, then we may and it is even recommended by sunnah ... ... to invoke Allah SWT by الوتر. For example, by saying "O Allah the One." Then he says his intention to Allah SWT.
