Kind: captions Language: en hey there Dr Whitley here I am sitting in a cafe uh in Paris where I've just sort of wrapped up my research for the summer on Buddhist medicine um and I just want to share with you something I'm doing right now A little chilly out that's why I'm wearing a sweater and a scarf it's also raining a bit everyone's kind of dressed up sitting at a cafe called the dumago it's a very famous cafe in the uh a six around this malware um this this Cafe is a kind of a literary Cafe with many famous writers and philosophers thinkers I actually came here to hang out and have conversation so let me tell you what I'm doing because I needed something to warm me up I got that is French hot chocolate it is super thick super intense warm feels really good and absolutely delicious so let's talk a little bit about chocolate chocolate has proanthocyanins and catechins and uh we all know that these bioactives and chocolate activate our body's Health defenses and they can actually activate our metabolism as well now one of the things that chocolate does is it's definitely good for the circulation helps protect the lining of our blood vessels and Studies have shown in humans that the high polyphenol chocolates can increase stem cells in your blood vessels that can help you regenerate and that's how you do for the heart for the brain healthy aging all the the whole shebang the metabolism part is a little bit more complicated because it's very difficult to separate the polyphenols in dark chocolate from the sugar that actually comes in chocolate now even this dark chocolate this cacao has a bit of sugar in it um and um gotta be careful with having added sugar but I wanted to talk about this as a something that I'm actually going through right now is if it's cold I wonder something warming didn't want coffee uh I had tea already uh so I just wanted to actually have share with you uh another way of actually getting down some hot chocolate in the middle of a cool afternoon now the other interesting thing that you should know about is that dark chocolate has been stuck in the lab and it does slow down in the lab the process of muscle aging you know how we should get over muscles start to kind of break down an atrophy and one of the things that you don't want to do is you want to lose muscle mass and so dark chocolate in studies those bioactives slow that process down so it kind of extends the sort of the youthfulness Vitality of your skeletal muscle that's the stuff that we we work out with and we need to walk around so if you like what you're hearing uh you're going to love the fact that I am actually teaching my last Heat to beat disease of course it's an online course it's going to start this coming Monday August 7th and if you click the link in my bio you'll be able to sign up for it it's been pretty popular I've still got as few seats left so for anyone who's really interested in getting in if it's if you are ready to make a change in your life come take my uh on live course it's really learned on your own time but I do show up live I am going to actually be for the first time talking about my new brand new research I've done in a Mediterranean so lots of really great new things we're going to talk about olives and tomato tapanade and we're going to talk about artichokes and melons and a whole bunch of things I actually discovered just a few weeks ago in the Mediterranean and so it'll be super fun super interesting and I hope to see you there so sign up now links in a bio and uh hope to see you next Monday hope you enjoyed this chocolate session which usually is pretty popular when I talk about chocolate Dr Lee House
