hi I'm Dr William Lee and today I want
to share with you five tips on how to
optimize your metabolism and how to know
if it's working well using a new
technology from lumen
this is a device that I've been using
myself to confirm that my metabolism is
in good shape and improving
first I want to give you the tips
tip number one
you can eat foods that contain
bioactives these are natural chemicals
that boost your body's Health defenses
and fight harmful body fat as a way of
increasing and elevating your metabolism

that improves your metabolism is
quercetin which is found in Capers which
I love to eat and red onions in fact I

tip number two
you can starve body fat by shrinking its
blood supply
now your fat is like an organ and every
organ needs a blood supply so by
controlling the amount of blood vessels
feeding your fat you can right size your
metabolism
green tea is an example of a beverage
that contains polyphenols that have been
shown in the lab and in a clinic to
control blood vessels and these can also
right size your fat to improve your
metabolism
tip number three
eat Mediterranean style this means
choosing ingredients when you're
shopping and preparing dinner to make
tasty Foods found in the traditions of
Mediterranean and Asian cuisines
just a couple of examples of these Foods
edamame mushrooms Chili Peppers garlic
broccoli bok choy tomatoes onions garlic
pistachios in fact a whole slew of other
items you can find your local grocery
store or a restaurant menu
tip number four
don't eat after bedtime your metabolism
is hardwired to switch it on to burn fat
when you are not eating so by not
snacking after dinner you're giving your
body extra hours to burn away body fat
and this can help improve your
metabolism
tip number five and this is the coolest
one you can measure your metabolism
using a breathalyzer
this is a simple device called the Lumen
that I use in the morning to check if my
metabolism is in fat burning mode which
is a good thing and I like to use a
lumen as soon as I wake up and then
again after I've eaten my meals
the device has a carbon dioxide sensor
and a flow meter that determines how
much carbon dioxide I'm exhaling in a
single breath and this reflects how my
metabolism is actually working
and based on the data that you get from
using this breathalyzer the lumen
the phone will actually send me because
of the device beaming up into the cloud
personalized recommendations for
nutrition sleep and physical activity
all of which can guide me in optimizing
my metabolism
