hey there it's Dr Willie and I am
actually really pleased to do a program
with uh my colleagues and collaborators
at Samy T I am looking for um I'm going
to be joined by kiomi who is the founder
of Sammy T and uh we will talk about the
metabolism benefits of tea uh let me see
if I can actually find her
and not yet

um all right so I'm just gonna get
started and we'll wait for her to come
on board
all right this is my new book Eat to
beat your diet
it's um not a diet book It's actually an
anti-dye book uh and what what that
means is that the new science of your
body specifically your metabolism
teaches you that you don't actually have
to go on a extreme diet of any sort in
order to be able to actually improve
your metabolism fight harmful body fat
and increase your energy and improve
your overall health
as a side effect as a side benefit extra

extra fat all right so that's what we're
going to be talking about and I marked

um all right and you know what I'm gonna

right now my great uncle lived to 104
years old who was completely independent
and mentally intact and he attributes
his longevity to actually having lived
at the base of a team mountain and he
got up in the morning and he walked up
The Path so he was physically active and
he would sit and he would sit his first
day's cup of green tea and he probably
had 10 cups of green tea he always had a
cup with him sipping it all day long and
I can tell you as an inspiration for
somebody who is healthy who lived a long
vibrant life that's actually something
that I that was inspiring to me all
right so what I'm going to do while
we're waiting for uh Sammy T
um don't see her just yet
um uh I'm actually gonna
um talk I'm gonna do a little reading
from the book oh the book name of the
book eight to beat your diet it's

um okay so I'm going to read some stuff
for you so you guys get an early view of
this all right I basically say t is one
of the most popular beverages in the
world second only to drinking water how
about that
um I talk about the story of green tea
dating back at least 5
000 years
um to the emperor Shannon in China and
it was the rumor actually is that he he
had his soldiers with him this is an
emperor and he was out there camping and
there was a natural wild tea bush and a
wind blew and some of the leaves blew
off the bush as you as happens and it
blew it into a cup of hot water and the
emperor not supposed to drink
contaminated water
um waved off his guards and said no you
know let me let me I'll try that's fine
don't worry about it and he sipped it
after a few minutes and he realized that
it was actually
delicious and so then he encouraged
other people to try it so that's the
legend the emperor shenong in China 5
000 years ago sipped some hot water that
had a tea leaf blown into it that
flavored the leaves okay
um and so they are from China it's
spread to India and then to the rest of
Asia uh let's see
tea leaves are picked by hand twice a
year in the early spring early summer
and they're basically dried so you pick
up leaves and you actually dry them out
on mats and then
um uh and then you kind of roll them up
they wither a little bit then you roll
them up and if you want to oxidize them
then with more heat and dry them then
you can actually get from green tea to
oolong tea which is a darker tea and
then you can actually ferment that and
you get like a super fermented tea
that's actually uh that's really amazing
um so let's see my guest from Sami is
not here just yet
um but that's okay we will keep on oh I
think she's here
um
try to do it again
I wish Instagram had all right there she
is kill me how are you
running and inviting your um Community
to come on board look at all those
hearts going up everybody loves you it's
amazing yeah well they love you too so
yeah I was I was starting out by um
showing everybody my new book eight to
beat your diet and I said it's not a
diet book it's an anti-diet book because
it shows you how Natural Foods Whole
Foods or beverages like tea I call the
tea one of the Holy Trinity one of the
top three things to drink if you want
health and better metabolism one one is
water drinking water okay two two is
coffee okay no milk or sugar and three
is tea starting with green tea but even
going to oolong tea and even poo or tea
so a whole range of teas are really
healthy and I was just telling everyone
the origin story of tea dates back to
this Emperor who had a tea leaf blowing
into his hot water cup and he drank it
and he thought it was delicious told
everyone to drink it great great you
know I'm so excited about your book
because you know when we hear the word
metabolism we always think about
encounting carries losing weight but
actually metabolism means much more than
that metabolism healthy metabolism means
healthy cells and the healthy cells
support our overall health including
strong immunity so you know if the
metabolism comes into like you know
losing weight and always like you know
restriction restricting that what you
eat you know that actually the goal of
healthy metabolism goes backwards so
yeah I'm so excited about your book well
thank you and and you know I I want to
look at some of the questions that are
coming in as well people are and we'll
we'll talk a little bit about it when
people are coming in but I was reading
about I was reading actually from my
book about
um so as kill me was saying metabolism
is really about the the energy of
ourselves and when our cells are full of
energy they can power up all the other
defenses in our body including our
immune system
um uh and it's all type metabolism tied
into everything the interesting thing
about metabolism is that we need
um fuel to power ourselves that fuel
actually comes from the food we eat and
from the beverages that we drink high
quality fuel like high quality tea uh
actually will provide our body with the
right type of energy sources to make us
run our system in a healthier uh way
right so
um tea is interesting because it's
actually got a lot of bioactives natural
substances many of you will know that
catechins are actually healthy natural
substances the egcg but there are
actually other healthy substances is
that can actually trigger your
metabolism as well one of them is called
chlorogenic acid now chlorogenic acid
also found in coffee also found in
apples also found in pears so it's
actually that along with uh theanine and
egcg in the catechin powers up our
metabolism so I'll tell you about a
study that was done in Iran looking at
the powerful effect of green tea on
metabolism and body fat and what they
did this group of researchers recruited
70 women I met you reading from my book
because this book is not out yet but if
you want to pre-order it on Amazon you
can actually do that
don't forget you guys you guys can get
the bonus like I did and you get and you
get a big bonus right yeah
70 people studied in Iran and this they
were people in a diabetes clinic and
they had metabolic syndrome which is
pre-diabetes and they were divided into
two groups one group got just under a
cup of green tea to drink three times a
day for eight weeks I I I've been
drinking green tea three times a day for
my whole life so it's not a big thing
it's not a big ass yeah and then they
actually had a placebo right so good
clinical research always has a placebo
and then what they did is they measured
the body measurements and blood tests
and here's what they found at the end of
eight weeks the researchers found that
tea drinkers lost more than two pounds
and the only thing they did that's
different than their normal diet was to
actually drink tea they lost two pounds
and they had a smaller waist size now
waist size is actually
um this yeah yeah okay it's your it's
your belt it's not the Muff it's not the
muffin top that people worry about you
can't pinch an inch all right waist size
is actually the circumference of your
body when you have a lot of harmful
dangerous body fat growing inside your
body tube your waist size increases and
what that means is that when you shrink
your waist size okay that means you can
tighten your belt you can fit into the
clothes again when you shrink your waist
size what that means is that you've got
rid of harmful body fat inside the tube
of your body very very important okay so
there's smaller ways yeah I love that I
buy three quarters of an inch that's
almost an entire belt hole okay yeah and
this is compared to people who just
drank hot water or lukewarm water and
the people who drink green tea had
better blood pressure they had better
blood glucose their sugar was able to be
used better and their bad cholesterol
also LDL declined by nine percent so
here's one example of how just a cup of
day under a cup of day of tea to drink
green tea three times a day for eight
weeks had tremendous health benefits
just like you were talking about right
I I think that you know tell me
something about what's the difference
between matcha tea and regular green tea
okay okay so majority is powdered tea so
that means
um it's not freeze dried juice from the
tea leaves actually you are drinking
whole Tea Leaf because whole Tea Leaf is
ground up into the fine powder and you
are mixing up with hot water and you are
taking that tea leaf like whole food so
you are not just taking the water
soluble nutrients from the Tea Leaf
until that you are getting vitamin A
vitamin E
um you know some something uh and also
minerals that are not these um soluble
into the water and so you are getting
you know much more nutrition and soluble
and insoluble fiber and that is not
small and it helps your gut health too
that main difference yeah and that is
that is such a big difference because
regular green tea which I love to drink
regular green tea beautiful
um uh taste very calming it's uh overall
good for health I love the process
what you're saying is that matcha is the
powdered Leaf the whole Leaf so let me
tell you some facts from my book that I
wrote about okay so it turns out that
um when you compare muchas grown before
they pick it under shade and when when
it's under the shade it makes the Tea
Leaf uh make more of the catechin so
they actually create up to three times
more of the egcg compared to regular
typical green tea so the leaf itself
already has more bioactive but because
you ground the entire leaf and you're
drinking the entire Leaf as opposed to
just steeping the tea bag or having
loose tea leaves okay which you don't
swallow so one study by the University
of Colorado showed that matcha tea
liquid has a 137 times more egcg and
typical commercial tea that you would
dunk all right so and by the way how how
uh and you I keep brewed for like 10
minutes and you know get all the things
that dissolve nicely yeah here's an
interesting thing there was a study done
at the University of Chichester in the
United Kingdom that studied matcha on
metabolism I'm all about research and
and not just a theory but does it work
in people yeah so anyone who to read
about all the research studies is here
my new book hates to beat your diet okay
so here goes a study by research at the
University of Chichester in the United
Kingdom enrolled 13 women who were
normal weights these are normal weight
limit they had no no obesity and they
were young in 19 to 35 so these are
people who are in good shape
okay and they were given that uh they
were given four cups of matcha to drink
um over 24 hours okay uh and then they
were asked to walk okay to exercise a
little bit
um to improve their metabolism so they
walked in the treadmill all right in
order to move to improve their
metabolism so a certain group actually
um got much got uh just walking other
groups were walking plus drinking the
four cups of matcha over the whole day
and guess what
exercise of course helps you oxidize
your fat so burn fat by exercising
that's why people go to the gym all
right but if you exercise and you drink
matcha it's the research shows that you
improve your fat burn by 35
that's amazing so exercise plus mucho
that's huge actually it's good yeah so
um you know we have a decaffeinated
green tea powder and that is made of
with um Center Center Green Tea Leaf
which is naturally lower in caffeine
than matcha but we offer decaffeinated
Center powder to even decrease the um
the caffeine amount in the farther down
close to zero and sometimes we get the
inquiries and questions about you know
okay so decaffeinated green tea powder
does that still work for uh for the
health you know for example on the
metabolism and uh so far I found the two
studies and done for the um the decaf
decaffeinated green tea and
um that both of those
um actually studies were done
combination with exercise and the
decaffeinated green tea and they saw the
positive effect so those um the egcg's
effect on a healthy metabolism are um
actually independent from caffeine so um
if you you know if you if you are really
sensitive to caffeine or if you want to
enjoy the and the cup of and the health
benefit of green tea
um in the evenings for example and then
and you you still have an option uh
decaffeinated Center powder Evergreen
yeah so I just yeah awesome yeah no no
no that I think that's that's that's so
great so I mean look uh uh I'll tell you
some other interesting things I've been
actually discovered oolong tea also
quite good even and it's a little had
more oxidation and then there's a tea
called poo or tea it's a very fermented
tea that also has health benefits as
well for the metabolism so any way you
cut it it turns out that tea actually is
a metabolism activating beverage
something that you can enjoy all day
long uh something that even with without
caffeine it doesn't matter you still get
the benefits from it and it's one of the
few foods that you know I think truly
stands up to the reputation right so
many people talk about superfoods or
super drinks and things like that the
tea is a you know 5 000 year old
beverage and so one of the things that I
talk about in my book need to be your
diet which I want you to pre-order on

um the idea literally is that we can go
back to the past
to look at the history of our food and
beverages in order to be able to look in
Asia and then also in the Mediterranean
for clues that the people and the thing
that the people what the people are
eating and drinking back then actually
would only continue to be relevant if
they had some benefits over these
thousands of years right
yep and we actually have in naturally
the uh the system to um turn on the
metabolism switch right and I think you
know one of the great ways to turn on
the metabolism switch is
um intermittent fasting and so um the
beautiful thing about the tea is you can
take it in the middle of intermittent
fasting without breaking that fasting
great great point a very important point
so you know people many people have
heard of intermittent fasting
intermittent fasting really is just when
you're not eating a good example of when
you're naturally intermittently fasting
is when you're sleeping when we're all
sleeping or not eating and during that
period of time our body says oh you
don't have much insulin because you're
not eating when the insulin is low your
body switches its metabolism into fat
burning fuel burning mode so you can
burn down fat and increase your
metabolism now if you eat foods during
that time you'll disrupt it if you get
up in the middle of night you have a
midnight snack you're going to wreck
your metabolism because all of a sudden
insulin spikes and now your metabolism
has to do something else and it can't
burn down but you can actually sip tea
you can have coffee you can have water
but especially tea because it's calming
at night and especially decaffeinated
tea and and you will actually be able to
activate your metabolism the catechids
and the chlorogenic acid that I
mentioned in the tea amazing what it
does it triggers
um your fat not just regular wiggly
jiggly fat not the lumpy bumpy fat not
the fat under your arm not under your
chin not not in the muffin the the fat
that it triggers is called Brown fat and
what the catechins in tea does it turns
on that brown fat so it becomes a space
here you know a space heater like in an
apartment what but this what this fat
does by the way it's not I told you it's
not wiggly and jiggly paper thin it's
around our neck under our chest under
our arms and then what happens is that
the T will trigger that brown fat to
fire up its energy it generates heat and
when it's generating heat it burns down
extra energy starting with your body fat
your harmful body fat and so tea can do
this and it gangs up with the natural
effect of when you're not eating or
intermittently fasting and the good news
is that tea is something that metabolism
friendly beverage you can actually have
whether you're fasting or whether you're
eating it doesn't really matter it
actually cuts through all of those time
periods you don't have to worry about it
right right yeah so literally again you
know we can drink tea all day long and
you yeah you know eating or not eating
that is fantastic and it's you know
tasty and relaxing not just you know
improving the metabolism so what about
fantastic drink yeah yeah now let's see
I'm look I'm going through
um some of the the chat things
um you know
um uh can we talk a little bit about um
how Sammy T sends its T do you do you
have tea bags do you what are your tea
bags made out of people are asking about
like what's inside the tea bag you know
some people talk about microplastics and
so how do you guys do it okay so yeah
for that reason and you know for other
reasons too you know we spit out and
loose leaf tea and powder tea so um all
of them are um organic and um tested for
um uh toxins like lead and radiation
microorganisms like yield and more East
End mode so um we try to provide a pure
green tea and
um you know green tea powder is not just
a convenient and also once again it's
like a whole food but at this same time
lucif can offer you that you know the
different sense of rituals you know the
rituals and you know slows your pace
down a little bit you know something
like that so you know it has a benefit
and um so we offer matcha organic matter
and also organic Center powder and the
center powder offers you less caffeine
but you know the easy city is actually
higher than matcha and we have
decaffeinated version of the center
green tea powder too wait wait a minute
let me let me ask you to
you're saying that your organic green
tea has more egcg than matcha right
exactly and that is
rather nature does because
um you know when you see how Cardigans
are created in a tea leaf actually The
Cardigans are synthesized from the Theon
and amino acids in that
um you know some some substance that um
that green tea burst Communications uh
naturally have okay so the when the TNN
is exposed to sunlight in a dead
sunlight
um synthesized the curriculum
antioxidants from the theanine so
um that is why
um the matcha is covered in the shade to
increase the some some suppressed amount
of calories unfortunately bitter or
astringent even though it's really
healthy for you you know it's not a
present taste so tea farmers are
actually trying to suppress the cardigan
amount and increase the theanine amount
which is Umami or severe s or sweetness
initiative so um you know as long as you
are ingesting the teeth either matcha or
Center powder you get a lot of catechins
but if you compare compared to speaking
that tea leaves grown in the Sun and
generally speaking it offers more
ketogen antioxidants that's what Mother
Nature does interesting you know the
other thing that's been discovered about
organic is that
um
uh that that pest that pests little
insects and bugs that are in the wild
naturally they will nibble on the leaves
and the stems for example of fruits and
vegetables and and tea and that little
nibbling stimulates the plant to
actually produce uh more bioactives
including catechins then yeah you know
it's sort of it's a wound healing
response because the leaves are nibbled
on so if you actually grow it with
pesticides you don't have as much
nibbling and the plant doesn't need to
make as much defensive mechanism as well
so this is where the growing actually is
important and organic actually important
um somebody asked about somebody asked
about black tea and it turns out that
black tea also is actually very
beneficial it's beneficial for your
metabolism and the ultimate black tea is
a fermented tea which is why I made it
why it's black called poor and poor tea
is actually a probiotic tea it not only
is has a good for your gut microbiome
your gut health but it actually has its
own bacteria it's Unique bacteria that
actually grows in it that's actually
healthy for you it's kind of like you
know um uh how uh kimchi or uh
sauerkraut or yogurt have its own
bacteria poor tea also has the same so
there's a huge amount of benefit in all
these uh teas and I really encourage you
