I'm dr. Willie I hope this message finds
you safe and healthy give the current
world situation I understand what you're
going through because I'm on both sides
of the equation on one hand I am self
isolating myself in my home but I'm also
a physician trying to do my best to help
everyone I can including the people on
the front lines but here's a one thing
I'd like to change and that's the
narrative just a little bit instead of
focusing on all the fear and all the
negativity surrounding Cova 19 I'd like
to offer up some guidance on what we can
all be doing to boost our body's health
defenses including our immune system now
one of the things that you need to know
is that as we isolate ourselves at home
this is going to be increasingly
important for people who have
compromised immunities who actually have
chronic diseases and those are the
people that are most vulnerable to cope
at 19 I wrote my book eat to beat
disease because I study how the body's
health defense systems work and help us
resist disease and how foods can boost
those defenses so while we're waiting
for a vaccine to developed and other
treatments be tested in clinical trials
for coronavirus I want you to know that
we choose to eat every single day can
make a big difference in our immunity I
always get asked what foods I eat for
immunity I'm eating foods loaded with
vitamin C which is actually critical for
helping to keep our immune cells working
fine what are they oranges orange juice
guava strawberry mushrooms are really
great too and tomatoes are also great I
also drink pomegranate juice because
turns out the pomegranate juice can help
us grow healthy gut bacteria that boosts
our immunity and I love to drink tea a
coffee every day which is also good for
health I try to avoid as much processed
food as it possible especially now and
so the question is what's healthy well
the rules haven't changed even with the
virus eat fresh Whole Foods mostly
plant-based and cut down or cut off and
cut down or cut out red meat and
ultra-processed foods it's super easy
and remember there are no super foods
there's no single food that's going to
protect you it's
all the foods that you choose to eat the
diversity that can help keep our bodies
strong and by the way it's not just
about food we also have to combine our
diet with good lifestyle like good sleep
and saying physically active as we go
through this together I'm going to keep
serving up ideas surrounding the food
you eat and how to continue boosting
your immune defenses in other words how
to eat to beat disease which is more
important now than ever before please
comment below to let me know what you're
struggling with and I'll try to answer
you in the best way that I can and as a
community at the moment it's better to
be separated isolated in person but
online we're going to be stronger
together and you can count me in to help
